30 million kids who qualify for free lunch do not attend a summer enrichment program, while leaders in a number of states have tried to add days even weeks to the academic calendar which would add to the expenses when states and local governments are cutting down on the budget.

What is summer associated with? and school? Summer is associated with liberty and school is associated with oppression 

Why is larking through summer a luxury we can no longer afford? 
American students are competing with children around the world, who are in many cases spending four weeks longer in school each year.

Is summer really a lark for many children?
What is it really? No for many children especially children of low-income families summer is a season of boredom, inactivity and isolation. 

Is that your experience as well?
No I usually went outside and played in the desert.

What is healthy stimulation during the summer months according to the authors? 
Any short of educational activities.

If they keep the same schedule when you are parents, what kind of summer activities will you plan for your children and why? 
I would enroll my child into educational programs to help them become an advanced student.


What's the trick to establishing summer enrichment activities? 
They have to be having fun while they learn. 


Why did we have long summer breaks in the first place? 
Back in the day they would get summer off to help farm.
