Pathos
In the past couple days in class we discussed the emotional content of pathos in the covers we decided to use. We learned a picture can have an emotional connection with its viewer. In the process of viewing our cover and our classmates we had to find our emotions that we felt about it. Using strong words or phrases such as Erik's and Corinne's when they wrote "eyes glistening with tears and fear" about the baby in the cover getting his vaccinations or Dylan and Sandra's paragraph when they used quotes such as "When the music died" and "Give peace a chance" about John Lennon being on the cover. These writers brought out the emotional content of their covers.

Argument
The argument the author is making is that during summer low income kids lose knowledge due to the lack of summer enrichment programs.
The piece of information that is missing that would support the argument, is that it does not go into more detail on how the money will be raised.

30 million kids who qualify for free lunch do not attend a summer enrichment program, while leaders in a number of states have tried to add days even weeks to the academic calendar which would add to the expenses when states and local governments are cutting down on the budget.

What is summer associated with? and school? Summer is associated with liberty and school is associated with oppression
Why is larking through summer a luxury we can no longer afford?
American students are competing with children around the world, who are in many cases spending four weeks longer in school each year.
Is summer really a lark for many children?
What is it really? No for many children especially children of low-income families summer is a season of boredom, inactivity and isolation.
Is that your experience as well?
No I usually went outside and played in the desert.
What is healthy stimulation during the summer months according to the authors?
Any short of educational activities.
If they keep the same schedule when you are parents, what kind of summer activities will you plan for your children and why?

They have to be having fun while they learn.
Why did we have long summer breaks in the first place?

We learned that the argument in the article is logical because children especially children of low-income families summer is a season of boredom, inactivity and isolation.
There is also an emotional appeal in the article using words such as oppression
